Roy Meuwissen is an artist, writer, and educator currently based in Toronto. Born in the Netherlands, he immigrated during childhood to western Canada where he lived and worked before relocating to Europe. He holds a BFA from the Alberta College of Art & Design (1997) and an MFA from the University of Windsor (2003). His recent professional activities include the site-specific installation Ellipsis, exhibited at Vancouver’s Access Gallery, in 2009-2010. He was also an artist-in-residence invited to the Banff Centre residency, Why Are Conceptual Artists Painting Again? Because They Think it’s a Good Idea, led by the Berlin-based critic Jan Verwoert in 2009. He has been exhibiting professionally since 1997, and maintains an interdisciplinary and conceptually-oriented art practice with a critical interest in the convergence between painting, cinema, and post-studio practices.
